Actually the TC became invaluable real quick!!!!

I took that new Tamaron 28-300 VC (see above about lens) and as much as it's been touted as a great lens and people were anxiously awaiting it's araival (from the threads I read about it)... I OF COURSE got the bad copy <:o(

It worked "ok" from 28- mid-100's and then it would stick while zooming and when it did zoom - it would focus lock and take the pic.. but it would be sooooo blury it would be unrecognizable... And most of the time it wouldn't go all the way back to the lock position.... Needless to say I was pissed!!!!

So I had the awkward setup of having the 50 1.8, 100 2.8, 10-22, and 70-200. Normally not a bad set-up - but with only one body I had to swap lenses left and right between the primes and the 70-200. I occassionally just left the "defective" 28-300 lens on to use the short end. But mostly I used the 70-200 + 1.4xTC and the 10-22.

I took the lens back to Camera Exchange here in SA wher ei got it and bitched about how pissed i was that it malfunctioned during the Alaska trip of a lifetime. And even though I bout it 31 days ago - they gave me full credit for it and the filter I got for it.

And then (Ken you'll love this) I took that 600+ and spent another +600 and picked up the 17-55 f/2.8 IS ..... I decided the 24-70 will come later if still needed...

Agreed with that! I am heading to Alaska in a couple of weeks and some photos now would go a long way towards filling my daydreams!
