Asahi Super-Takumar M42: 50mm f/1.4 - 05-26-2009, 03:49 AM

Make: Asahi Opt. Co.
Model: Super-Takumar
Feature: 50mm f/1.4
Price: ~20bucks. Found it on ebay.

Notes: shot wide open. you judge it for yourself. never shot any other SLR or DSLR than the 5DII so I wouldn't know too much about it. Also, this lens and few other MF lenses hit the mirror as focus to infinity. This one hits mirror at ~20' focusing distance. Since DSLR video become a very strong player in video production, MF lenses is a must for full-auto exposure cameras such as 5DII, T1i, D90, and D5000. More importantly, a lot of MF primes are cheap.

I will get more pictures up later.

Canon 5DII f/1.4 1/40s iso6400. Shot in JPEG, AWB, and no post-processing.

Which adaptor are you using with it? I found the 50MM 1.8 at a garage sale last weekend (she wanted $15, got her down to $6) and was going to order one of those adaptors on eBay. Is there a big benefit to getting the adaptor with the electronic connectors on it?

I use couple of different ones. But the latest one is this. This one is better than the black ones ppl sell. at the inner diameter, it is recessed, not that it matter but I just put electrical tape on it so the AF and IS connection doesnt get shorted. I never heard of ppl taping it but I just do it, simple task.

the connection ones are Nikon conversion to retain AF and possibility IS(or VR) functions. Never use it since I dont have interest in AF functions.
