Old Western town recreation

This is a discussion on Old Western town recreation within the Anywhere Else In Texas! forums, part of the Texas category; I'm interested, but what is the purpose? Just for photographers sake, or is it in conjuction with a county fair ...

And I can only think of a few towns out there... Graham, Graford, Garner...

Yeah, but the OP quote states this place is supposed to be used as a Movie Set!
I have friends in Mineral Wells, and so far no one knows anything about such a place near there.

Is it on the old Air Base North of the State Park?????

Thanks for the update.

I'll never understand why some people don't understand that reading long text in all uppercaps is one major PITA!

Probably a former police officer or mainframe operator. I've seen a couple of police officers just hit caps-lock and start typing their report. It is no worse than the kids today who type in all lower-case with no or little punctuation.

I'm sorry for the dup post, but that caps is painful to read. I cleaned it up a bit in Word.

Hello
Well the dates are set for the 1880's old west photo shoot. We are going to have it the second weekend of November. That will be the 14th and 15th.

What we have planed now is. Cowboy greeters when you get there to help park and show you where to go. Hopefully we will have a carriage to shuttle people into town. It's not much of a walk; just think this will be nice if i can pull it off. In town we will have horses in the street hitch rails and a team and wagon. There will be cowboys all day long as well as some saloon girls. I hear tell that the 1880 mayor of whit and his wife will be there for a visit as well as "John T Calhoon" barb wire sales men, from the movie set "moon crossing" I heard that Bat Masterson and his farrow table might be there. I do know that a gambler and some cowboys will be playing a poker game in the saloon. They have to watch there cards and not the saloon girls. Moe the bartender will be there cleaning glasses and the bar as well as trying to keep peace in there.

Never can tell who will be in the cafe having coffee and maybe talking about a horse trade. The town marshal may be in there with miss feline from the short stick saloon. Some of the other things we have planed is a civil war camp in the morning, a mountain man camp in the afternoon. They might get to throwing tomahawks or knives ,and a chuck wagon camp with cowboys sitting around the camp fire drinking coffee, resting on there bed rolls and listening to one of the cowboys playing the guitar. Planned are two gunfights. One I wrote. It has the trail-boss getting robbed of the money he got for his cattle. Do the good guys always win??? Mmmm gotta see this one to find out how it ends. And the other gun fight is a face down, the marshal on one end of town with the good guys and the bad guys on the other end of town. We use blanks so we can use the bad guys over and over. i have told my marshal that this is not a film just did "reach for the sky" with him so we need to slow down the gun fight so that cameras can get lots of good shots.(as well as the good guys) we use black powder in the guns so there will be gun smoke during the gun fights. Along with all this you will get a chuck wagon lunch. Most likely bar-b-q, butter garlic mash potatoes, home made bread, cowboy beans, and cobbler for desert. There will be tea, coffee and pink lemonade all day , Just help yourself.

The photographs are welcome to dress 1880's if they wish but don't have to. If you are dressed you might fit in and not have to worry about getting out of some bodies shot (just hide your camera) i don't want so many people there that it is hard to get a 1880's picture with nothing new in it. I think as spread out as we will be. I would like to hold it 30 -35 photographers a day.

The charge for the whole day, either Saturday or Sunday will be only $85.00 . We will start at 10:00 or a little before. There are hotels in Mineral Wells only a few miles from the old town (about 12 miles) if you wish to stay the night before to be fresh for the day. I will be talking to them about a better rate then normal.

I'm looking for reservations now. If we get a lot more then we can handle we will think about doing this again for the people that miss this one. I do know that an artist from New Mexico is coming. He is friends with somebody i did a movie with and he said this is a great way for him to get things to paint. Please RSVP to saddleupnow@netzero.com or you may call 940-328-0232 hope to see you there
happy trails

Me as well.....like strictly closed for photographers only or also open and advertised to the public to come out and see an Old West town and have your picture taken with the Sheriff for $15.

Wondering what the draw is for all the "actors" to show up and entertain us? Let's see 30 photogs a day a $85, and double that for the weekend comes out to about $5,000. And 50 actors divided $5000 equals about $100 per actor for the weekend. They must simply love dressing up and playing in the past.....or perhaps high hopes for lots of free images in return for their time.
