I received this email from a guy named Doug McKellar the other day. He is in the planning stages of putting together an event, and wanted to know if us photog types would be interested. I assured him that we would. There are no firm dates he gave me yet, but I told him I would post his query here. If someone near Mineral Wells wanted to take the lead, his email is: saddleupnow-at-netzero.net (remove dashes and change to @)
Here is what he wrote me:

HELLO
MY NAME IS DOUG , I'M TRYING TO FIND OUT IF THERE WOULD BE ANY INTEREST IN A CAMERA CLUB COMING OUT TO AN OLD WEST TOWN ( JUST NORTH OF MINERAL WELLS)THAT IS USED FOR A MOVIE SET, AND TAKING PICTURES OF COWBOYS ALL SET IN THE 1880'S.
WHAT I WAS THINKING WAS TO HAVE HORSES AND WAGONS IN THE STREET IN THE MORNING. OF COURSE COWBOYS AROUND, SALOON GIRLS, A CIVIL WAR CAMP, A MT MAN CAMP, A GUN FIGHT IN FRONT OF THE SALOON,AND A CHUCK WAGON SET UP WITH A COWBOY SINGING WHILE THE OTHERS SIT AROUND. THERE WOULD BE A CHUCK WAGON LUNCH FOR ALL THE PHOTOGRAPHERS .
THERE WOULD BE NO CARS ALLOWED DOWN IN THE TOWN PEOPLE WOULD BE SHUTTLED BACK AND FORTH BY A HORSE AND BUGGIE. I DON'T WANT SO MANY PEOPLE THERE THAT WHEN THEY GO TO TAKE A PICTURE THAT THERE IS SOMEBODY IN THE PICTURE WITH A CAMERA. PHOTOGRAPHERS COULD DRESS IN THE 1880'S IF THEY WANTED TO BUT WOULD NOT HAVE TO.
THIS IS IN THE PLANING STAGE RIGHT NOW BUT I'M LOOKING FOR SOME FEED BACK. RIGHT NOW I'M NOT SURE WHAT IT WILL COST PER PERSON. SOME OF THAT WOULD DEPEND ON HOW MANY ACTORS I HAVE.
ANY HOW IT IS SOMETHING FOR YOU TO THINK ABOUT. IT WILL BE AN ALL DAY OUTING SO I'M GOING TO WAIT TILL THE FALL WHEN IT IS A LITTLE COOLER.THANKS FOR YOUR IN BUT AND IDEAS.
HAPPY TRAILS
DOUG

What we need are a few wet plate cameras.

I would be interested provided I'm available. Sounds like fun. Mineral wells is west of Fort Worth on I-20 and then north on TX-281. I pass that exit every time I head to San Angelo from DFW. | | | |
