East Texas shooting spots - 08-21-2009, 01:04 PM

I live in Lufkin and I need some new places to shoot. I've already been to a few Sam Rayburn parks. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I remember right after the hurricane hit. I went up to Lufkin and took the loop to the left and then the road that heads to Dallas on the left. I can't remember how far. But on the left there was an exotic animal ranch maybe "safariland" or something like that. I hope something I have said helps you out!

Probably Grapeland Safari. On US 287 a mile or so north of Grapeland. It's a nice place. A ton of grassland critters in a very natural grassland pasture. Cheap too. $5/head.

Wait until wildflower season next spring. You can drive for mles and find all manner of wildflowers.

Also try the Kilgore 1st Presbyterian Church, in Kilgore. http://www.firstpreskilgore.org/

Stephen F. Austin State U in Nacogdoches, Texas is always a nice trip. http://www.sfasu.edu/

Hwy 349 and the new parkway around Elder Lake (which used to be my families property before my grandparents passed away). My Great Grandfather built the lake, the rock walls, and three beautiful Cedar wood lake houses which were burned to the ground in the 1970's by dopers looking for places to shoot up. Before they sold the 1,000+ acres, we could not go out there unless everyone carried a gun. Looks like they kept the old lake, and it was heart rendingly beautiful in the mornings. Texas can exist without the United States, but the United States, cannot, except at great peril, exist without Texas. Sam Houston.

Just off of 259 I think its Millers Crossing, and downtown Nac. behind Commercial Bank and then just up the street there is a park (main st ) from Lufkin as you get into Nac. make a right on Main St. and you will the bank and just up the street about a block the park is there. If you make a left on main you will go down to the train tracks and this might be some possibilities there as well. Hope this is helpful.
