The Alamo - Movie Set - 05-30-2010, 07:43 PM

I am really anxious to shoot at "The Alamo" in Brackettville.

Last year I was standing at the gate - they were closed after a death in the family. The kids (?) I guess have decided to keep it open part time. No shops or restaurants.

I intend on getting there one weekend soon.

Who has been, especially lately? Any good?

For a minute there, I thought you were talking about the alamo set on Reimer's ranch near dripping springs. The production company I work with has had a few productions out there.... and it is aging and falling apart. nothing really for a tourist to see...

I have tried to call and the phone number has been disconnected. I have driven down there twice and left notes and my business cards on the gate. I have also left a couple of emails and notta. Let me know if you are able to get a hold of someone and I will split the gas with you.

If you drive farther down the road past the front gate you can see the entire town/set. I would love to do a shoot out there!!

I heard the owner died. And the kids probably don't care about it.
There were a lot of films done there. the owners also discovered singer Johnny Rodrigues.

Andy,

I have passed by there hundreds of times over the years. Went on the property about 8 or 10 times starting in the 80's. It would be a great place for photography and has gained a lot of character as it ages. It has an old movie replica of the Alamo and a fairly long street with buildings on both sides. Probably about 20 buildings total. There used to be a restaurant but it closed about 8 years ago.

Approximately a year ago they put a sign on the gate with a phone number saying that it was by appointment only on weekendss. That sign is not up anymore. I have a few contacts in that area that I will check with. You might also try to contacting some of the local businesses in Bracketville and ask them.

I will be going by it next month and let you know if anything has changed. I would be interested in photographing it one last time myself.

The last word I heard was that it was closed to the public and had no plans to reopen. I last visited in 2008 and now I am glad I did.
