Ghost town - 06-10-2010, 10:01 PM

I'm ticked at myself for not writing the name of the town where I shot these down... I'll go through there again soon. Hopefully I can remember to note the name. The name doesn't show up on Google Earth

Very cool. What were you in? Were you in Texas?

I can't decide if it's a motel or beer joint or an office...

It's between Waelder and Flatonia on Highway 90. There's a single green sign with the town name on it but I didn't write the name down. I'll go through there again and get it.

Awesome! We drove 90 from Flatonia east back to Houston once. Don't remember it. Is it west of Flatonia? Flatonia is cool too.

I drove by there last night at around 10 and the only signs I could find were the Whistleville Road (or Lane?) signs so I guess I was dreaming about the other.

It's about 4 miles west of Flatonia. Flatonia is a cool little town. They are very Railfan friendly for those that may be interested in that sort of thing.

I like that one best too. I broke tradition and put it up first. I started to not go inside but I'm glad that I did. The inside was way better than outside.

Well I'd say it's a good thing you went in. You would have missed out on something pretty cool if you hadn't.

Michael, it looks like you need to be the coordinator of our next expedition west out of Houston... you seem to know much more about these places than I do - - or at least you seem have some context for stumbling across them... I have to go out there and drive around looking for them... I scanned 90A between Waelder & Flatonia on the map and you can see it from the sky, and you can see it real well with the ground level shot. I was just out that way my self about 2 months ago and didn't see it, but perhaps I was talking and just missed it. You need to get a GPS you can just leave on when you drive around and use it to capture coordinates of interesting things to come back to. That's my plan... Great find!

Theres an old map on Stella, Texas. that shows a community named Janice about 5 miles west of Flatonia, I don't know if this is the town you were at or not.

I've driven by it quite a few times and didn't stop. In fact... I passed it up the day I took these shots. I made myself drive back there before sunset

The problem with me leading a tour is that I stumble across this stuff.

Thanks. There's not much substitute for good light... I would like to claim that I timed it that way but the reality is I showed up at the right time without any forethought. I'll take luck any time I can get it.

That looks about right to me. I can't remember which side of the county line it was on... I want to say it was just east of the line so that would make it right.
