I used to frequent Hagerman, it's about 1 and 1/2 hours from where i live. You best bet is around later Nov and Jan during snow geese migration, the numbers could get up to thousands strong. There are waterfowls and song birds, birders would love it but not bird photographers; you can't get the distance and low level perspective. Also, I've seen wild turkey, bobcat, deers, boars, and coyote at rare occasion.
My late visits to Sherman were mostly Denison Dam instead. It's probably one of the best place for pelicans in flight when they release the water.
