It won't work without the software.

Of course but are you saying that you can only load the software on one computer at a time? You can't buy one and calibrate multiple monitors on multiple computers? If so then what a ripoff!

It isn't a ripoff, it is because of the software license. I can put this on all of my computers because I bought it and the license allows me to do that. Calibration is done on a regular basis so you have to have the device on hand to do it. Everyone who does this seems to have their own unit. What you are asking to do is probably not legal. It is the same thing as having my own Photoshop. When you buy a software program, you actually just buy the right to use the program and not the actual physical program. No one reads the licenses they automatically check, but that is exactly what they say.

I just checked Amazon( Amazon.com: ColorVision Spyder2 Express Win/Mac: Windows & Macintosh: Software) and they have this used for $44.95. That's a lot less than I paid.

Ok, I see. I was viewing it like a hardware peripheral such as a monitor where you could let a friend borrow the monitor and they could download the drivers for free. Xrite has their accompanying software available for free download on their website. It was making me think that devices such as a Colormunki for example would operate under the same types of conditions as any other hardware peripheral. I found the EULA though and see that I was mistaken. Thanks.
