Uvalde, Concan, Garner State Park Area - 12-12-2011, 12:58 PM

I'm heading up to the Concan/Uvalde area which has the Garner State Park near by. Other than the park, what other areas could anyone recommend.

Thanks in advance,
Ken

I like waterfalls myself and a nice wide/low one is at Rio Frio. Much of the river near Leakey is private property so be forewarned.

I can say the Frio by Concan when I was out had some water flowing down it for Thanksgiving weekend, but boy was it windy.

looking at the weather, it looks like it'll be 40-50% chance of rain this weekend, i'll have to conjure up something else than what i was planning to do.

hopefully the rain will be a bit less than my last trip. One evening I set up in the river to do some slow shutter water shots, that night the rain came and the river rose 15 feet.

Here's before/after
(note: the trees to the right in the before shot are those in the center of the after. Somewhere on the bottom of the Gulf is the small pedal boat I used that night and dutifully tied to a small tree when I was done. The bridge at Concan had 3' of rocks/gravel on it and was closed.)

Depending on weather and time frame:

Lost Maples State Park north of Vanderpool, via Utopia.

If you have time, take RR 337 from Utopia to Medina, TX 16 to Bandera, then RR470 back to Utopia and back to Concan.

Another trip would to be go into Hunt from Lost Maples, eat lunch at the Hunt Store, then take FM1340 about 2 miles out of Hunt and photograph the Stonehenge replica.

And, most of the towns in that area (Leakey, Rocksprings, Bandera, Medina, Kerrville, Fredericksburg) have Saturday trades & crafts days, with lots of hand made gift items and photo ops this time of year.
