1st Tornado of 2006 - 04-24-2006, 11:10 PM

Tonight, we saw the 1st tornado of 2006. Not much to see but I did get a few keepers. I saw it on the ground, but thought it was just a grass fire till it was behind me. But thats okay, there was plenty of action going on. These shots were taken along IH-44 on the Oklahoma side at Exit 5. The hail before I was able to pull off the road was grapefruit sized. It was being thrown from the sky, it didnt fall. It would hit the ground and shatter. No warnings on this storm till after it passed us.

This tornado was in the begining stages and later went on to produce a very weak F1 (if that) in far North Clay County. No injuries or damage reported at the time of posting.

This was as it passed over us. We were under an overpass with some storm chassers from Oklahoma and a few motorist who stopped due to the hail

My wife took these while I was on the phone. She does this better then me

In that last photo, what are those red dot on the lower right above the cloud? And what's going on under the cloud at the bottom?

I didnt see those red dots till you said something. I sent an email to a buddy with my tablet and used red to hightlight some of the points in another photo. I guess its from when my son took the pen from me while I was resizing it. I repost later with out the dots.

As for what was going on under the last photo, we were sitting near an industrail park here in the Falls and the shutter was holding open longer, so thats the lights from the building in front of us.

I, on the other hand.....sat in my apt. and cried like a baby, lol.

Worked the early shift and was not called in for the storm. I did however drive to Byers and had a front-row seat to watch the storm die. That was one heck of a wall cloud flashing between lightning strikes.

Huck...you get anything like that again, call the newspaper. If we didn't get it...we'd be glad to pay you for one, and if we did get something...they may STILL pay you for it.

I wouldn't have said anything about the lights on the bottom, but they seem to be making a horizontal figure 8s over and over from left to right as if the light was moving.
I thought maybe the red dots were sprites that are seen from above clouds.

But you tablet seems much more likely.
