This was a very nice building and has some really good construction details. It is a shame it is apparantly abandoned. Is this pretty much a ghost town now?

It is. There was only a house or two in the vicinity but the church is in remarkably good shape.

I've got story about this church that still gives me the jeepers to this day....like jeepers with nightmares for a few days.

So about 3 years ago...one of the reporters and I were off doing stories in Seymour (closest town to Bomarton). One of the stories involved going out to the small lake near town. We drove right past the church....well, being the good reporter and photographer we were, we stopped to investigate.

Amazingly....the door was unlocked and we waltzed right in. It didn't look as clean as your interior shot Russell...but it was somewhat close.

We explored around, all the while, I've got this creeped out feeling...much stronger than the normal "I'm nervous" feeling.

There are all kinds of irrational thoughts and sounds going on around me....probably just squirrels or pidgeons, maybe mice. Those were easily explained at least.

So I go up into the choir loft at the back of the building (the wooden structure in photo #4) and there was a ratty old blanket, a bowl with a rusted old wire mesh and dog droppings beneath the old bell tower. There was no telling how long they'd been there, the droppings didn't look fresh.

I looked around, and the metal rungs for the ladder to go up to the bell platform were broken to at least 8 feet from the ground. Difficult for anybody to jump up, grab it, and pull themselves up there.

So I'm looking up at the tower, and something is looking back...and pulls back at kind of a sideways angle. Not like jerking their head straight back to be avoided....but sort of a 45-degree angle.

I about wet myself.

It didn't register as anything I'd seen before. I thought bird, but there was no wing-flapping sound. I thought person, maybe a homeless guy, but I couldn't entirely validate that either.

I very quickly, and loudly said "Michelle...we need to go now." and quickly went back downstairs....grabbed Michelle and practically was running out of the front door to my truck. Got in the truck, locked the doors...started it....then tried to explain what happened to her.

I was terrified....mainly because I'm a rational thinker, and I couldn't explain exactly what it was I saw. I've never gone back inside that building, and frankly I don't think I ever will again.

jeepers...

Yeah Jason. That bell tower is creepy. The story you mentioned has a familiar ring to it. I was taking a night photo of an old house back in August and I saw something staring back at me as well.

Jason, that was you?! Sorry dude, didn't mean to scare ya!

Nice find Russell. I'm always inspired by the way you find time to continually come up with new stuff!

Years ago while growing up in Dallas, I heard the story about the "Lady of the Lake". The story goes that there was a young, attractive high school girl who was going to the prom and her date lost control of the car and went into White Rock Lake and he made it to shore but her body was never recovered. This was during a thick, pea-soup fog. Every year after that on a thick foggy night, someone would be driving down the road next the White Rock and see a girl in a white dress and soaked waving them down. They would stop, she would get in and give them her home address which was around White Rock. When they would arrive at the house, she would ask them to go get her mother to help her and they would go to the door, only to find that the girl was dead. They would return to the car and the girl would be gone but the seat would be soaked. The mother had to move because of the people coming to the door. I was in high school and it was foggy so we decided to get a six pack and go see if we could see her. One of the group decided if we got TWO six packs, she would see TWO ghosts!

I'll bet there is a story about something bad happening at this place a long time ago.
