Look on Google maps using the satellite view. You can see it visually in the satellite map. It's the smaller building located east on the lot, directly off the little road. It's actually on a road called St. Mary's Drive, directly off 1774. As mentioned, there's some newer/larger structures that block it, but you drive down St. Mary's Drive and you can parallel park along it (it's a tiny, tiny road).

I was there during a baptism and mass, so I never got a picture clear of obstruction.

Nice shots Carlws! I noticed your photos have a yellow cast. Mine did too. Luckily, I had taken mine in raw and I was able to do some aggressive white balance processing in Canon DPP to bring out the correct colors. Venchka, I just drove down 105 today on the way to Waco and I noticed that the Sign for the church that WAS at the intersection of 1774 and 105 was gone. You can see where the sign was, but the sign itself is now missing. If you go north on 1774 from hwy 105, the church is a few miles down on the RIGHT hand side. Like previously mentioned, there are newer buildings closer to the road and the church is set back a bit. Go slow and you can't miss it. According to my map program, St Mary's Dr. is a little over two miles north of hwy 105 on FM 1774

Yup. Thanks everyone. I was able to locate what I figured was the church on the satellite image. Y'all confirmed it. St Mary's Drive was a good clue!

I've been here several times, and love it more each time I go. If there is anyone there, they are always friendly and helpful. The mood and images you'll capture are very different depending on the time of day and whether or not the interior lights are on. Definitely worth the drive, along with the dozens of other little treasures you'll probably come across on the way.

Cool A pleasant drive - 04-04-2007, 08:05 AM

Last Sunday wildflowers and spring calves were in abundance. Continue up FM 1774 to Anderson. The courthouse and historic Inn are worth recording. Take a map and figure out a different route back into town. I would avoid Hwy 6 & US 290 back to Houston. It's amazing how close genuinely rural countryside is.

Cool Stained Glass windows - 10-10-2008, 11:03 AM

An attempt at a diptych of the windows behind the central alter. Suffice to say, the exposure was a bit tricky. I almost got it right.

Pentax 6x7 | Super Takumar 45mm lens | Fujifilm Reala | Lightroom help

Comments, critiques and ways to improve are always welcome and appreciated.

Thanks for looking!

Just a quick heads up for anybody thinking about making the trip to Plantersville to photograph this beautiful church. You might want to wait a while. Construction work on the expansion of the church has begun and the church will be totally closed down with no access for 8 or 9 months beginning in about a week or so. Expansion plans can be seen on the church website at:

St. Mary Church Expansion Proposal - St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church

I recently took one last photo of the interior and will be adding photos to the church website as the construction progresses.
