Hi folks,
I've lived in Abilene for a while now, and have yet to meet up with the West Texas Photographer's Society that meets downtown in the Center for Contemporary Arts. I've been out of town on the 3rd Thursday or whatever, and the one time I was able to make it, no one else showed up. Well, myself and two other first-timers did, but we weren't much help for each other!
Does anyone know about this group, or would anyone be able to offer more details? Are they meeting tonight? Where? When?
I am anxious to get involved in this group, so any help would be appreciated.
Peace,
GKB

*BUMP*
Just FYI, this group did meet last night. It was "Gadget Night" and a few folks showed off some of their toys. Anyone in Abilene or the surrounding areas should try to stop by next month.

Hey, Greg
I'm a member of the WTPS. It's a fun group. Dean, me (Jill). Joe, Lorelei, Anita and spouses went to Willow Bend in mid-April to shoot bluebonnets. We had a great time jawing as well a shooting.
Our members have loosened up a lot about digital. There are some film shooters, but
more digital. One of our competition categories limits you to what a photo lab might
do for you (contrast adjustment, levels changes), but in the enhanced category anything is
allowed.
I hope to see you on Thursdays.

I'm told that all three colleges in Abilene teach photography and there is photography at the Center for Creative Arts. I would love to hear from more photogs in the area, to help us decide if we want to mount a show of B&W prints in Abilene.

Wyman Meinzer recently gave a talk and slide show at HSU,
and it was well attended. Also, the Texas Photographic society has shown work at Abilene
's Center for Contempory Arts. These are just two things I can name off of the top of my head. We would be most interested in your photography. Dean is Vice President of our club, and can get out our members to the show. Also, there are a lot of active photographers in Abilene who aren't members of WTPS. Many in the arts community I'm sure would be interested in a B&W show. Please come!

thanks for your interest in our fair city | This is very gracious. Actually, I think the choice is going to be up to us. We've been all but promised a slot next Spring and the wheels are turning in Abilene to put together the requisite funding, etc. They are supposed to take care of the publicity, etc. However, I am not above self-promotion , so a little more on the "major broadcasting stations" wouldn't hurt my feelings. Stay tuned and let's see how this turns out.
The work in question is the Texas Church Project. There's already been a thread about us: http://www.texasphotoforum.com/forum...church+project

Guys, when I last lived in Abilene, it was all churches and 0 bars. Heck, they did not even allow a campus dance until I was a senior at AHS. Times have changed. I reckon a few people will come out to figure out why people have been pointing cameras in their direction.
