Pecos River High Bridge & Dr. John Brinkley Estate - 07-05-2005, 11:17 PM

Little hot to be out doing much hiking, but visited Pecos River High Bridge area and took a few photos on Sunday, 3 Jul. Taken from the overlook, boat ramp, and then from West side of bridge looking back at the overlook and the old Native American shelter (bottom right cave) that has been dug up and the soil sifted until it is like fine talc powder. Also drove by the old Dr. Brinkley estate before leaving town and took a couple of photos.

I was out that way the weekend before you, visiting Pumpville and Langtry. It was a great trip but a long drive from San Antonio.

The TxDot folks actually had one lane of the bridge closed when I was passing through. I think they were doing some sort of testing. Judging by your shots I missed a good photo op.

Very nice! I love the Pecos river area. My wife and I went kayaking there in mid-June (from the boat ramp to Parida cave). I love the canyons and spectacular views out there.

The Brinkley estate is about 1/4 mile from my mother-in-law's house :-) And the Val Verde winery is also close by. I love that place!

Thanks. I think the Pecos area is some beautiful rugged country. Many years ago I actually climbed down to the large cave below the overlook, just to look. Have read articles on the different organizations that have researched the area and all the artifacts they have discovered. I think UT were the main ones. I have lived in Del Rio since Jun 1973 and as interesting as I find the story about Dr. Brinkley, I never made it to any of the open house tours they use to give. Oh yeah, the vineyard is maybe 100 years down the road. Del Rio has some interesting history and I want to get out and try to document some of it. Thanks again for the feedback.
