My family and I go to Tyler quite often to the zoo. I actually prefer it over the Dallas Zoo because you can get up closer to the animals and you don't have as much blocking your shots! It's a lot cheaper to get in, it's free to park, and it's less crowded as well. They have all the major zoo animals, and the African area is exceptional (elephants, giraffes, lions, wildebeest, zebra, etc). You can stand right there within arm's reach of the macaws and flamingos, and they have lovely jaguars and cheetahs too. I know my photos aren't exceptional by any stretch of the imagination, but you're welcome to look through the ones I have linked to see what the zoo has to offer. The shots posted were all taken with my Kodak DX-6490, and I can't wait to get out there now that I have my digital Rebel! If you live in that area, it's absolutely worth a day trip to check out.

I have to agree! I drove up there this past summer and was pleasantly surprised. It really is a nice zoo and not near as crowded as some of the larger ones in the state. The park is also very clean and well maintained.

Wow, very nice photos ! The zoo there looks great , too. Next time you're in the DFW area you might want to check out the Ft Worth Zoo. It's far superior to the Dallas Zoo, and is one of the top 5 Zoos in the US (IMO). Much more natural settings & pleasant surroundings.

If you're in Tyler don't forget the rose garden, when they are in bloom you can get some nice photos there.
