This air show will be on May 3rd, 2008 and the Bone will be flying at this one. The only opportunity around Texas that I am aware of to see the B-1 fly and perform this year. http://www.dyess.af.mil/airshows/
Anyone else going?

I might see about making a trip down there...
I remember the first time I saw a B-1 at an air show... it was Carswell AFB in Fort Worth, and he did a sneak attack... wings swept back and just below supersonic really low to the deck.
Scared the living crap out of about 20,000 along White Settlement Road.

Well... it's time to get back in the game.

Scared the living crap out of about 20,000 along White Settlement Road. | While I was in south Florida, I attended most of the Ft. Lauderdale Air and Sea Shows and I remember two different years that we were blessed with two Bone's flying and performing in tandem. I only hope they're putting up a couple for us in May for the show. It is amazing how much noise and vapor those big birds can put out.

I got to enjoy a pre-race B-1 flyby at Texas Motor Speedway on a NASCAR weekend a couple years ago. Awesome! Wings swept and all 4 burners lit! L O U D!!

Regards,
Steve | We're driving up Friday after work and will get to Abilene late, so we don't have to leave Austin at way before dawn on Saturday. We're looking for a decent motel/hotel in the vicinity of Dyess, in case anyone can recommend one to us.
Perhaps we can find a spot to meet during the show (you can track me down in Flickr, also). I know I'll be walking up and down always looking for that better place to shoot.

I was dove hunting several years ago north of Dyess, and the B-1s were circling. They were turning about a mile away from us, and they were flying pretty low. As said, they are LOUD. Every time they'd come by, we'd get a wave of dove flying in a minute or two later. They were being scared by the loud jets, and they'd come right to us.
I've liked B-1s ever since. | | | |

We're headed out this evening and will be there when they open, tomorrow.
Looks like it might be a bit chilly, tomorrow.
