Suggestions for photo ops near Tyler - 06-13-2008, 01:38 PM

My uncle, an avid photographer from Vancouver, is spending a week with me at Lake Palestine in July. Any suggestions for interesting locations within a reasonable drive in the Tyler area? Neither of us have been in that area before!
Thanks folks!

The Rose Gardens are nice this time of year. Roses are what Tyler is known for. The garden is just off of West Front (Hwy 31) inside the loop next to the fair grounds.

Caldwell Zoo is located on MLK just off of West Gentry (Hwy 69).

Tomorrow, June 14th, the Tomato Festival will be going on in Jacksonville. Activities start around 10am with a street dance with live entertainment in the Chilis Parking lot on South Jackson (Hwy 69) in front of the Walmart and that starts at 7pm.

Edit to say... Ooops... you will be here July so the Tomato Festival will be over by then. :(

And I forgot to mention Love's Lookout which is a scenic overlook just North of Jacksonville off of Hwy 69.

I am planning to be at the Tomato Festival in the morning. If you see a big guy wearing dark slacks, medium blue shirt and a Canon strapped around his neck will probably be me.

Run over to Caddo Lake. Lots of good photo-ops there. Take the steamboat ride.

there is a train that goes from Palestine to Rusk- it's about $35 a person, but it drops you off at Rusk for a few hours and then takes you back to Palestine.

There are several churches in Tyler that are beautiful to take pictures of: Marvin UMC, Christ Episcopal, First Baptist.

If you are looking for architecture, you can go down the Azelea trail and the brick streets, lots of beautiful houses and plants. There is also the Goodman museum on Broadway that is fantastic for pictures.

All of the other suggestions are great too!

Almost forgot! If you are into it, Canton has the first trade days from July 3-6. Lots of people to take pictures of!
