Field trips in East Texas - 08-22-2008, 12:02 AM

I'm new here, so this might have already been covered. Are there any small groups that have short photo day field trips in the East Texas area? I have a full time studio, but it is always nice to get out a bit and have nerdy conversations with others.

Sounds good. My studio partner and I would def be interested. I know that the Tyler Photo Club has organized trips to Caddo Lake in the past. The Tyler Zoo is always good. Rose Garden? Since you are in Marshall, the American Rose Center over towards Shreveport might be a good trip if anyone is in to flowers. Any other suggestions?

Hey Robert, have you been to Caddo Lake recently? I was wondering if there's any color in the cypress trees yet. I'm hoping to get up that way in a couple of weeks to do some shooting there if I can work my schedule out.

I don't think this is exactly what you had in mind for a field trip but the Longview Museum of Fine Arts is having an exhibit of Ansel Adams' photographs through December 21st. I have heard from one person saying it is well worth the trip and I plan to go this coming weekend. There is no admission fee so it could be a relatively inexpensive trip.

Have you considered the Heritage Village in Woodville?
http://www.heritage-village.org/
I took my grandkids there and giving them a smell P&S camera told them to take pictures that tell stories...it was great. http://www.texasphotoforum.com/forum...ad.php?t=81522

I'm interested in the trip. I first need to clear some things on my schedule. Will let you know if I can go.

I went to the museum last Satruday. I don't have words to express how glad I was that I went. We Arrived early and I spent a very pleasant 30 minutes photographing the area around the museum.

Go see the Ansel Adams exhibit!

Maybe a field trip to your studio? No fun for you. Those of us who are studio challenged might enjoy seeing a real studio.

Outdoor trip idea: When I am at home, north of Hawkins, I like to go to Winnsboro. I'll be at home from Christmas to Jan. 4th. If anyone is interested in meeting in Winnsboro, give me a shout. PM works. I check the Forum when I'm at home. Yep, we even have Al Gore's internet way back in the woods.
