Water Birds @ Rockport/ Port A - 11-06-2008, 06:39 PM

Boliver is not going to happen this winter so I was wondering if the Rockport/Port A area was having any luck with shorebirds yet.
Planing to be there this thanksgiving.
Thanks

Yes there a few here now. I have been going down to the beach/harbor every morning this week. I guess it depends on what you are looking for. Rockport Beach and the Harbor always have birds. Enter the beach park and drive down towards the Salt Water Pool (furthest pavilions) then take the circle, there are always birds down there in or near the ski basin. You can also drive down Water St. off Austin St, there is shoreline there and the street is one way with a walking path. If you drive south of town between Rockport and Aransas Pass you'll see birds in the marsh area. I saw a flock of Egrets, Rosetta Spoonbills etc. there Wednesday, I was just ready to shoot when a Diesel truck flew by and scared them all off. You can also try the 35 Bypass area, there are a few ponds out that way that are frequented by birds. There are 2 Red Tail Hawks that hang out in that area too, midway between Market St. and Pearl St. I don't know if you have ever been to the Birding Trails (not sure the exact name but I'll get it for you) on the 35Bypass. It's in between 18th Street and Hwy 181 there is lots of Marsh land out there and no one is ever there.

Let me scout out some more and I will give you more locations.

Thank you, I'm planning a trip to Port A in early December. Maybe we can get together
and take some pictures.
