Airpark - Airplane graveyard? - 12-23-2008, 09:09 AM

Anyone have any idea where there is some old planes parked in Texas? There are some really neat airplane graveyards in California I have found, but I am having a hard time locating one in Texas. Surely there is one around?

I need some old planes for a shoot coming up, and we'd like to do it in Texas if anyone knows of a place.

Thanks,
Todd

This same question was asked a couple of months ago.
Try to google aircraft graveyard, aircraft salvage, airplane salvage.

Actually, it might have been me asking. haha

I have forgotten where all I asked. Nothing too much turned up last time I was looking. I did find one in Nashville that might have to do the trick.

Thanks,
Todd

I'd direct you to the Boneyard at Davis-Monthan, but unfortunately that is in Arizona.

Todd,
I shoot ALOT of derelict planes during my travels.
There's a pretty fair sized outdoor aircraft museum on FM400 just a couple of miles N. of Slaton, Tex.
The planes are all parked on hard ground.

There's an F4, F14 Tomcat, F8 Crusader, a Navy VooDoo, P-80, F105 Thunderchief, Cobra attack chopper, T-2 Buckeye, a few jeeps and trucks.
BTW...that F4 had a Mig kill in Vietnam.

I've shot a few of these planes myself, and I plan on eventually shooting that Tomcat.

Here's an aerial shot of layout:

You could try Ardmore (the airport to the north east of Ardmore, OK, not Ardmore Executive which is downtown Ardmore). The last time I flew in there there were a bunch of commercial airliners parked around in various stages of disarray. I don't know how open they'd be to having you wander around, though; it's an operating airport (although small) and there's a Flight Services station and tower.

There is the museum at Meacham in FW. They have war birds mostly, but lots of neat stuff. They were happy to let me take pictures of the planes.

If you are looking for interesting planes, I can't help, but if you just want planes there are three or four dozen American Eagle prop jobs parked at the airport in Abilene. Nothing exciting, but a lot of them. I think American upgraded to all jets even for the commuter routes.
