Title says it all... Have an e-session next week in the big city of Amarillo and I'm needing ideas for fun spots. Will be an urban-ish session. I know we'll walk around downtown a bit, but just wondering if anyone knew of some other great spots.... abandoned trains, fun bridges, bold colorful walls, etc...
Thanks!!!

Yah, just wanting something else... the Cadillac Ranch seems so over done in that area.

Maddie --
What kinds of settings are you thinking? Maybe some of us here in big A can point you to the kinds of places you're thinking of if we know more.
You mentioned downtown. Just east of the Civic Center is the old Santa Fe depot. Haven't seen it up close in years, but it might offer something for you.
The new Performing Arts Center just west of the Civic Center is neat, modernistic.
There are some old houses and "churchy" churches as you move south and west of downtown toward the I-40 interchange.
At the north end of Polk Street are some kind of industrial scenes -- old warehouses, the railroad tracks, etc.
Out in the Medical Center you'll find the Garden Center with a big glass enclosure and the Discovery Center, a science museum, plus the park in the Medical Center.
Checked weather and you might have sunny conditions and temps in the mid-to-upper 50s depending on the days you're here.
Any questions, please lemme know.

Thanks for the info Rex... hope you're not frozen today! Was supposed to be flying in about 5:00 but my flight was cancelled!! So, hopefully tomorrow will be a better day! Excited that the weather is showing partly cloudy! I don't know if I'm looking for anything in particular. I'm from Perryton, so anything in Amarillo is better than what we have available!! Where are some of the homes and churches you referred to? I think we'll also head to the old Santa Few depot and take some shots around the Paramount. I'm thinking maybe the industrial area around Polk as well! They're a young, funky couple and up for anything!

Homes: On the south end of Polk St. is the Harrington House, the nicest in that area. It's now a "historic" house so you may need to ask inside the back door where they let people in if it's ok to take pictures on their grounds. Just around the corner to the west on Tyler is a nice photogenic old house at Tyler and about 17th. Don't think anyone would interrupt your shooting there. Most of the time no one's around there. It belongs to First Presbyterian Church, which by the way is a very popular place for brides to have their pictures made -- 11th and Harrison. You're welcome to shoot there at your leisure. Back on Polk St., there's a little Victorian house at the south end right next to the I-40 & I-27 interchange. Might make a neat b.g.
If I think of anything else I'll let you know. BTW, you wouldn't want to be here today. It's overcast and 18° -- but, being from Perryton you know the high plains weather.
Holler if you need anything else.

Just thought of a "colorful" wall. It's on 16th and one block east of Washington. Always covered with graffiti -- haven't paid that much attention to the tags, but it's pretty public so maybe not offensive. Very colorful.
There's another colorful wall on the Blue Sky restaurant at 1-40 & Western. It's a mural of the Palo Duro Canyon. Faces north so sunlight might be a problem, but maybe not with flash.

The Madam Queen has been moved to just north of the Civic Center and has been cleaned up and painted and everything is new. The only problem is the fence around it. I second the First Presbyterian. There is also the old parsonage at Polk Street Methodist. There are storefronts on Polk between 10th and 11th - Cathey Fulligim (now vacant) and the Chamber of Commerce on the corner - the old Bivins house. You can also find about 2 million Canadian geese in various parks all over town - just watch your step! Also the bandstand area at Sam Houston Park.
RIght now there is a dusting of snow and it is a balmy 18.

The wind was awful and the bride was feeling a little under-the-weather, so we just ran over to Canadian (mine and the groom's hometown) I had a nice trip but quickly remembered that I hate the weather there!!! (I did get Blue Sky when we flew in!!)

Sorry about last week end. Should have been this one. No wind and in the mid to upper 70s. Better luck next time!
