Superb Service and a Question - 07-19-2009, 03:21 PM

So my D70 sat on the shelf for much of 2 years with only occasional use while I finished up anesthesia school. I have begun getting back into shooting more but even after several cleanings (what I considered to be quite thorough) by myself I have been unable to get the sensor satisfactorily clean. Actually there was still a considerable amount of grit and artifact in my shots. So my wife was heading to Arlington for the weekend (we live in Abilene) and I was on-call :-(. So I sent my D70 with her to take by and have it cleaned professionally. Well she calls me and says that the guy at Arlington camera said that it isn't the sensor but actually the filter and to buy a new sensor would prolly cost me more than the camera is worth by the time it was installed. Here is the good part. He went ahead and gave the sensor a thorough cleaning anyway and then didn't charge my wife anything for it! Regularly a $60+ charge! Took a few pics with it today and can definately tell a huge difference in at least the amount of dirt in the pics. What's left must be from filter. Anyway, I think I know where I will be buying my D300s or D700 next month. Still shooting a lot with my wife's D60. Great little camera.

Now the question. I am considering converting the D70 to infrared after my new camera purchase. When this is done will they remove the filter and thus cure my problem? Thanks.

Yes. Part of the IR conversion includes removing the IR filter. Go for it! Do a search for IR on this forum. there is a DIY tutorial on converting the camera yourself. I will see if I can post a link.

Thanks Don. I was actually thinking about just sending it to LifePixel. They do it for about $250. I thought that was a pretty decent price for a pro conversion. I don't want to get electricuted!!! LOL!!!
