Just curious, is a credit card still necessary to rent from Arlington Camera?

I don't do cc's and I'm going to need to rent a body & lens for the week of New Year's Eve this year.

Im not sure about Arlington Cameras policy at the moment but I know I have rented from Fort Worth Camera before without a cc. All that was required was to leave a check that was returned once the equipment was returned.

Good to know, thanks Jere.

ETA: When was the last time you rented from there? Their website says you need a cc on file as well.

We do require CC on all rentals. The only other option is a cash deposit. The best thing to do is call and ask for Jay he is the rental manager.

When I called a couple weeks ago I was told the only way to rent was via CC. I even specially asked about leaving a deposit. How much is the deposit typically? I wanted to rent the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L and/or Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L specifically.

Matthew,
The idea with CC and cash deposits is they cover the cost of replacing the gear you rent. If you rent a thousand dollar lens the deposit should be a thousand dollars. Please understand we rent all kinds of gear and work with anyone that walks in the door. 99.9% of them return the gear in the same way it was sent out. Fires, car wrecks, car theft, break ins happen and we need an assurance we will be paid for the gear.
Thank you for your question I hope it helps

I certainly understand the need for a CC or deposit. My point was I asked specifically about an alternative to a CC and was told there was none. Granted many people may not have $1k to leave for a deposit but who's to say I didn't at the time, which in fact I did. Maybe another time.

Hm... I think in Georgia there's a shop that will accept your soul to rent a golden fiddle...

I don't mean take business from a forum sponsor, but there are a couple of online-based rentals that don't require as large of a deposit. I understand running on a low budget.
