Escaping Your Portfolio - 05-19-2009, 03:28 PM

In recent times I've become increasingly disenchanted with the concept of "the" portfolio in our digital world and I've noticed--in myself and others--that the metaphysical weight alone of the word portfolio can crush the creative spirit rather than enhance it.

What to do? Ditch it.

Great post. Chase Jarvis is excellent evidence of why students should study the liberal arts (he was originally a philosophy grad student) rather than their just their chosen field. If all you learn is photography, or biology, or underwater basket weaving, then you have missed the point of education completely. Education is not so much about learning, but learning how to learn. If you get that, your world will be so much brighter. Had Jarvis not learned the liberal arts, I highly doubt he would the free thinking, independent pedagogue he is today.

Very insightful.

If it wasn't for that type of thinking someone wouldn't have made this.

That was a good read.....thanks for posting the link.

I've never worried about a portfolio and I sure won't in the future.
