Movies about photography - 07-27-2011, 03:44 PM

In this thread I am hoping to learn about "new" or old hollywood movies that focus on the theme of photography. It is also my hope that you guys will also get a few titles to check out that you might not have seen already!

These are a few of the Hollywood movies that I have seen relating to the theme of photography.

Rear window (My personal Favorite)
Memento (I didn't care for this that much)
One Hour Photo (Robin Williams)
Spiderman (Peter Parker / Newspaper Photographer)

If you know of any more please share them with a comment below. I can't wait to see what titles you guys come up with.

Thanks!

The Bang Bang Club came out about two months ago about 4 of the best war photographers that ever lived. Two won Pulitzers. One died photographing a gun fight. One lost his legs in an IED explosion. One committed suicide. Great book as well.

salvador wasn't bad either, with James Woods

from IMDB
Quote:
A journalist, down on his luck in the US, drives to El Salvador to chronicle the events of the 1980 military dictatorship, including the assasination of Archbishop Oscar Romero. He forms an uneasy alliance with both guerillas in the countryside who want him to get pictures out to the US press, and the right-wing military, who want him to bring them photographs of the rebels. Meanwhile he has to find a way of protecting his Salvadorean girlfriend and getting her out of the country.

If you're interested in documentaries, 'The President's Photographer' is really good. It's mainly focused on Pete Souza as the current White House photographer, but it also covers some of the previous presidents as well. It's a PBS documentary, so you can order it from their website, or find it online if you're good with the file-sharing sites.

After this thread started, I went on Netflix and went through some of the catalogue looking for more and came across one that moved me tremendously:

"The Devil Came on Horseback"
The Devil Came on Horseback (2007) - IMDb

Awesome movie

Another great documentary you should check out is Rock Prophecies. If you have Netflix you can watch via Instant Watch. The open scene kicks you in the gut and grabs your attention.
