January 2012 Assignment: Glass (clear) - 01-09-2012, 02:50 PM

This assignment comes out of the last assignment. I have done many still lifes that involved glass in one way or another and found it very challenging to get proper seperation on both black and white back grounds. So this months assignment is "Glass"

Take pictures of clear glass in different enviroments. You will learn all about angle of reflection and how it both hurts and helps you in creating a pleasing image.

Here are some links to get you started.

I think I need to start doing these fun challenges. This one seems very cool. Time to open up the mind and take a unique glass out into the world.

Glass - My Crappy Attempt #1 - 01-10-2012, 11:58 PM

So, here's my first attempt at a still of glass . First off, I'd like to say I shot 81 pictures and I like this one and half-way like another. So I'm going to give it another shot tomorrow.

This was a fun project but I think the most rewarding part about it was my husband stating I'm weird - there's no way he could be referring to the fact that I've got a light pointed at a bar stool covered with a wrinkly sheet and am taking pictures of Mason jars at 11:30 at night .

Here's my first attempt:

And here is what I setup:
2 SB800s on our Kitchen Table. At first had flowers in background, but then decided to take them out.

@ Ray - I SEEE YOOOOUUU! Lol. Next to last pic - glass voyeurism. That's my favorite pic, btw. I like how the light catches either side of the glass all the way from the bottom to the top with random voids.

What system are you using for your Speedlights?

LOL ... I see myself too.

I am using the Elinchrom universal triggers with some cables I put together from Radio Shack.

great! Glad to see people getting involved in this assignment. No quite as easy as it first seems. I might set up tonight and do a series showing the progression and ensuing results as a sort of step by step...
