Ok.. first, thanks Abel for creating this forum and thanks Noe for starting the thread that ended with this idea.
Now... some things to keep in mind here:
1. This is not a competition, all skill levels are invited to participate.
2. Each month, I will post a new "current" assignment. It will be something vague and open to interpretation. Your job is to come up with some way to represent the topic... it can be a straightforward interpretation or it can be a creative concept.. its up to you.
3. So the page can load quicker, please limit yourself to one image per post. If everyone posts 3 or 4, it takes forEVER to load the page.
4. The idea here is to get the creative mind working here... something old hands can use as well as beginners, so discussion is not just permitted, its welcomed. Encouragement and suggestions helps improve us all.
5. Suggestions for upcoming assignments always welcome... send me a PM or start a thread.
6. There is no time limit. Post whenever.. even weeks or months after the topic is posted. The idea is to try and help inspire yourself to do something different - not to fit you within strict guidelines.
7. I will hold off posting my picture for each subject... don't want to color anyone's idea with my personal interpretation.
8. HAVE FUN

So, "The Way it Works" is not an assignment theme?
I had visions of watch gears, the insides of computers, car engines, and the like.
Hopefully a lot of people will participate and this will grow into a fun section.

On another forum they do this and have a lot of participation.
They encourage you to get out and take new shots that fit the assignment, vs, digging something out of your archives an posting it.
Old images are not forbidden, and dates are not checked, but, The idea is to have a reason to get out and take new images, look for new items of interest, maybe look for something you wouldn't normally shoot on your own.

Brad,
Is there anyway the postings for each assignment can be held off for a couple days, that way none of us get influenced by what others post?

I think they should be pictures taken during that 2 week assignment period. This is suppose to give you a reason to get out and "shoot"

Longer?
If we wait too long between the assignment and the beginning of posting, people may get forgetful.. or lose interest.

There's no need for a waiting period.
Once you know the subject, just don't look at the thread until you have your photo ready to post.
Great idea, BTW. Looking forward to seeing everyone's perspective on various topics.

I wonder what people may think about limiting the challenges to new shots only, ie no digging through your old shots to find something that fits the topic. I'll admit I posted an old image for the first challenge, but thinking about it isn't the real point of these challenges to prompt you to get out and shoot something and maybe look at things differently or challenge yourself to do something different from what you normally do?

IMO, if we limited it to new ones only, there will not be as many shots in the assignment as with just any picture you have.
To me it is a 2 part thing.
1. Come up with a picture that meets the assignment.
2. Think out of the box as to the assignment.
That is just the way I look at it, but its no problem either way.

That's exactly it... limit your shots posted for the assignment to things done in the last month or shot specifically for the assignment... its still the honor system, of course. :)

I need to participate!!!!
Anyway ... would it be a pain if everyone posted the particulars of their shots (i.e. lens, f/stop ...) ... that way the lazy ones (that would be me) can try and use that knowledge to imitate some of the pictures that are being presented.
just a suggestion
