Assignment #5: Mom/Motherhood - 05-01-2005, 12:15 AM

Taking a cue from Texas Sadie.. and realizing that I am late this week (deadline Friday, followed by a shoot in the garden, birthday party for a friend Saturday, and my daughter's birthday Sunday)....

Anyway, with Mother's Day being May 8th, let's do Mom/Motherhood as the assignment this week... anything pertaining to Mom, portraits of Mom, evidence of Mom, or things that say "Mom" (yes, even that heart tatoo on your arm will work).

Jezebel, that's a great photo and tells the universal story.

Darn, we can't have a winner already

This is a photograph I took of my mother-in-law, who is in the late stages of Alzheimer's. It was taken last year. (I hope I can use it here) Its been in my Pbase gallery. Anyway, I've never known a kinder, sweeter little lady. She's always been a dear mother-in-law to me and although her memories are fading fast, she's never forgotten how to be loving.

No, this was not staged. :) The big shells are no bigger than a dime. When I shot this macro, I didn't see the little one inside the "mother".

I've seen it before: it always moves me. I think this photograph and the others in the series with it is some of the best work you've done. Thanks for sharing here.

Wow, thank you everyone. :D

That is my best friend and her little girl. I think the cutest thing about that picture was that it wasn't the least bit staged or setup. She just wanted a kiss from her mommy and went in for the kill while I had my camera pointed at them. Lucky me!

Thanks! I wasn't into photograply at the time. Her family requested some photos of her and that was one of them.

One of the first pictures I took with my first Canon camera. My first daughter just a few days old and my wonderful wife.

Here is my Mom. The picture is a scan of a photo of her with her camera, and one of her favorite models. The picture was taken in her studio in the 1940's. Her studio being a closed in porch on the back of our home in West Virginia.
I believe the camera was a 120, twin lens Rolleiflex.

Another, probably taken by the San Francisco Bay, in the 1948.
