Assignment #7: Motion - 05-13-2005, 07:11 AM

Next assignment up... Motion

I am reluctant to make "rules" for this section, so how about a "suggestion"? Please try to restrict your response to a photo that you haven't already posted to Texas Photo Forum. However, if it comes down to using an old photo or not posting at all... please, by all means, post away. Personally I'd rather see a shot I've seen before than make anyone feel like they couldn't participate for fear of violating a "rule."

This is the shot I had in mind when I posted this assignment... it took an Honorable Mention at last year's State Fair:

My Friend, Jack Wilson, now deceased, was in his time, a Motion Expert Extraordinarie in the field of Triumph Motorcycles!
His efforts as a Tuner, along with several other North Texas speed seekers, in the mid 1950's, established a number of Land Speed Records at the Bonneville Salt Flats.
One of the results of their efforts that is still in effect today, in 2005, nearly 50 years later, is that a model of the Triumph Motorcycles is called the "Bonneville"! Had their need for Speed(Motion) not happened at Bonneville, there would have been an awfully lot of Triumph Motorcycles that would be carrying a different name.

The first picture is the restored Bonneville streamliner land speed record-holding bike that went 214.40 MPH on September 6, 1956 to set a land speed record, powered by a 650cc Triumph twin cylinder engine tuned by Jack. The engine contained all stock parts except for the crankshaft.
The Streamliner burned in a tragic fire at the British Motorcycle Museum two years ago. The museum sent the scarred remains of the bike back to Texas to a group of us who, using the original mold, restored the remains back to what you see in this picture. This newly restored Bike is now back at the rebuilt Museum in England.

The second picture is Jack's Plaque in the AMA Hall of Fame Museum in Columbus Ohio.
