March 2009 Assignment: Signs of Spring - 03-01-2009, 01:03 PM

Time for a new assignment... and since this is the month when wildflowers start blooming all across the state, I figured it was a good time for this topic...

Heh, I rarely do.. I don't want to influence anyone's interpretation since I'm the one who posts the assignments.

My signs - 03-04-2009, 05:19 PM

The very first sign of spring for me is always when My Lovely Bride ("MLB") drags me out to someplace where she can buy new plants, so that I get to dig new holes. (How do I always wind up on the sweaty end of her aspirations, anyway?)

And of course, while I'm digging all those holes, I always manage to see examples of the only kind of plants that ever really thrive in my landscape anyway -- weeds.

But then again, every now and then, I get to glance at the possumhaws at the corner by the back fence, and see the promise of new green buds replacing the winter's berries, and at least I know warmer weather is coming soon.

Now if you'll excuse me, MLB is rattling the shovel at me again.

I was laying on the sidewalk today, just enjoying the warm spring day when I looked over and saw a flock of geese within my zoom capability! This is also the first geese I've seen since winter. Enjoy my geese:

Okay, stupid newbie question that is also a complete thread hijack, but --

I just looked at what I posted, and the pictures look like GARBAGE compared to the original images! I shoot in RAW, and I still haven't figured out how to use PSE. It takes me forever to figure out how to downsize the files to get them to be under the max posting limits. I can understand that I'm going to lose some sharpness, but should the color saturation change that much, too?

I know this has probably been answered a thousand times, but I got frustrated trying to find it, so if some kind soul could direct a fool to the right link ...

This is not my strongest area of expertise but I can make up an answer as good as anyone.

Make sure you are converting your original image to sRGB color space.

edit: this sort of answer leaves a bad taste in my mouth ... there's no accounting for it.

Jeff, you probably need to sharpen again when you re-size the pic... and to not use "Save For Web" cuz that sometimes destroys colors and will not preserve your EXIF data. Some folks like to look at that and it helps when your asking a question that someone has that info. Hope that helps!
