A question to all:

Has anyone run into difficulties with the residents when trying to stop and take photos in the Willow City Loop? As I read on some other forums (and also via a lot of no tresspassing signs), the residents apparently do not like people to stop. I also happened to notice that a lot of bluebonnet fields/patches that were around in previous years have been plowed over and/or fenced off with the probable intention of discouraging people from stopping.

Just wondering what your experiences/observations are...

Regards,

Michael

The signs are there (no stopping on the road and no trespassing), but the road is a county road, which I assume it is a public right of way. I've gone every year and taken photos there and not had a problem, but I make sure to be respectful of other's private property and I do stay on the road. If the weather cooperates, I will be there this weekend and will post some photos.

It is a public road. The residents can't stop you from stopping on the road but you shouldn't wander off of the road or especially hop any fences. Most of the people out there will just wave to you.

I'm going to be there, tomorrow (Sunday), after eating some ribs at Cooper's BBQ in Llano.

I made it out there, today. I was actually surprised by the amount of wildflowers on the Willow City Loop. They were beautiful. They were the thickest I have seen in several years. I would say that after another week, they are going to be getting rather overgrown. You may be able to push 2 weeks, but if the weather is good, I'd go next weekend.

A couple of other tips would be Highway 71 between 281 and 16 is stunning. The wildflowers are everywhere and full of colors. Also, a great big thanks to Thomas Creel for the tip about 2323 between Llano and Prairie Mountain. Absolutely stunning! Thomas, I did find the swingsets in the bluebonnets at the old Prairie Mountain School. Also, as we were pulling out and directly across from the old school were four huge buffalo (3 of which were extremely curious). I had my 70 - 200mm lens on and one of the buffaloes got so close, that I managed to only get his eyeball in my lens. He was less than 4 feet from me on the other side of the fence. Hopefully, I got them in the bluebonnets!

I have company right now, but I have at least 500 + photos to look at over the next few days and I will share some of them. Weather was rather poor (very overcast and drizzly), so the lighting wasn't the best, today.
