Bluebonnet fields? - 04-03-2009, 10:35 AM

We are fairly new to the area and I would love to have some pictures of my kids in a bluebonnet field. I haven't really seen much of them except along the roads and am afraid that wouldn't be too safe. Anyone know where some might be close to the Leander/ Austin area?

Thanks!

Yeah, it's kind of hard to find a good spot to take picture of Bluebonnet fields that isn't directly by a highway. I saw a family pulled over on the side of Mopac to pose / take pictures of the bluebonnet fields.

I took this picture off Blake Manor road out in Manor, TX. They had quite a few bluebonnet patches/fields by the road, but it's fairly low traffic. There's also the East Metro Park nearby if you wanna take your kids to a playground as well.

Here's one around 36 & 290 behind a McDonald. It's master Ming Hao at work with a model Wear jeans for your kids, there's quite a few of those thorny vines around there.

The Lady Bird Johnson Center (it's a wildflower haven) just south of Austin should have some fields, don't know if anyone has been out there this year yet.

The patch of bluebonnets on their live camera feed have not fully bloomed yet but I would say that this would be the go to spot for the Austin Area. (I may swing by there next Tuesday myself since I won't be too far away).

I believe there's a fee involved at the Wildflower Center. I'm hoping to find some out in San Marcos on Sunday. I'll be there with my girls for Easter.

Love those shots, Houscous! Very different feel than most bluebonnet pics.

My husband has to travel to Houston every now and then and found some fields with lots of bluebonnets. We drove up to see them and take a few pictures.

It's almost bluebonnet season again, and I have families asking for shoots: what locations do you suspect will be good again this year? I have 1 scheduled in Marble Falls, and another in southwest Austin.

Post here as we scout them out!

bluebonnet fileds - 02-26-2010, 10:27 PM

I did find another field (not as pretty as the ones on the way to Houston) on 183 between Leander and Liberty Hills last year.

Don't forget Wildseed Farms in Fredricksburg. My wife and I realized several years ago while reading a Texas hwys that her COUSIN owns it. I went out last year and did some shooting in the Butterfly Haus and the flower fields around it.
Linky to my pics...
AndersonHaus Photo Gallery - 2009 Wildseed Farms

At the appropriate times of the year there is always something blooming there....
...And i think I spent 2 hrs in the Butterfly Haus.
