it's that time of year again - long course (head) race season for rowing!
This is a GREAT event to catch because if you're in downtown Austin at any point during the day of the 29th, you won't have to go far at all! The race begins at the Barton Springs inlet on Town (Lady Bird) Lake at Auditorium Shores, past the thoroughfare of downtown Austin as we go under 6 of the 7 lake's bridges eastward and finishes up at Festival Beach Park. Since this is traditionally held the same weekend of or before Halloween, there are also rowers who dress up for the occasion, prompted by the little contest they have every year.
You can post up along any of the pedestrian-friendly bridges (Lamar, Pfluger pedestrian, 1st St., S. Congress or I35) on the sidewalk, or anywhere along the route. Please make it out if you're in the area! Rowing is a lot more effort - probably one of the most physically demanding sports - than a lot of people tend to think it is, and therefore interesting to photograph

I will be rowing with the Greater Houston Rowing Club and hanging around some of the Texas A&M Crew kids
The weather is usually very pleasant, and you will catch a lot of people stopping on the bridges to look over at us as we row under. The first event is at 8AM and should be coming to a close around 5PM. Hope to see you waving at me from the bridges!
