Looking to learn with a pro photographer

Hi guys, I am looking to learn much of photography as it is my new hobby. I was wondering if any one had a spot for me to where I can learn about my new hobby, I by no means am trying to become any competition but simply want to learn. I am not looking for any great pay but just a little something to pay for gas if need to go somewhere. Holding lights, being a back up or something would be awesome since I will be learning and that is my main objective. I was told to ask people on forums near where I live to see if I will be able to assist anyone and learn from them. I am going to be moving to Austin on the 18th of August so it is pretty soon to now... thanks for looking and would greatly appreciate any advice to this matter
