What type of things are you going for? You can always do the bats under Congress at dusk. And then go drive 360 and there are some nice views... a bridge and everything. And the skyline at night isn't bad. There is always the capitol building.
Any of that sound good? | | | |

I have a place in Smithville and there's a bunch of things to photograph in that town.
Colorado River is always good off of Highway 71. Buescher State Park is about an hour drive from Austin. It has a lot of trees and wildlife. I believe Bastrop State Park connects to it which it will be even closer to you. Just a thought for something on the weekend when you off from school. There other towns all around that have neat old churches to photograph. Good luck with school and have a good time.

haha yeah nice tips, so I have never been to Austin but twice so I am not too familiar with the area. I am staying over here on 183 and 290 pretty much. I saw another thread recommending that Oasis lake. How far is that from here?

Austin is a great place for pics. Zilker Park, Downtown, 360 bridge, and the botanical garden next to Zilker. Although, the garden is pretty restricted as far as photographers go now... so you might ask around first.

Parking downtown? During the day? Good luck! You will pay.
At night or on the weekends - you have many options. The "One Texas Center" on Congress just south of the river is a pretty good place. (I think it is Congress)
360 - just drive it. It isn't all that long and if you start at 183 and 360 and head south, you will see it in 5 or 10 minutes (in light traffic).
UT? Permission? Just go.

You don't need permission at UT, nor do you need permission at Zilker unless you're obviously a professional photographer taking like wedding portraits of people.
There's also Mayfield Park (tons of peacocks and gardens and right now there are 3 baby peacocks! I have some pictures on my flickr site).
Welcome to Austin! | | | |
