It would be important to make it a small group i think that starts it up as sort of a "board of directors" that way there's only a few people to actually hold the responsibility instead of 20 different opinions on how things should work. The thing to bare in mind is this co-op is in essence a business. The space and utilities must be paid for monthly just like any other business. This is where i know personally i would have trouble bringing my end up as my photography is mostly just a hobby.
Me also being a hobbyist is where the trouble from this could stem. unless we are able to find somebody that was already looking for/has a studio and would like to lighten their monthly load a bit by letting others use the space occasionally, then I dont really see this happening. I doubt somebody is going to put there credit on the line (even in an LLC there is some personal responsibility) to let some hobbyists take some pictures.
FYI:I'm not trying to say its a bad idea or anything, I think its a wonderful idea, but if you figure out all the ways something like this can fail and take care of those points, then the success will happen on its own.

Its funny, as i posted my response, my boss came in and asked me if i would like to work full time, basically doubling my income.
And since i've learned to live on 20 hrs a week income this would be a nice chunk of change to invest in my future.

Time to buy an old warehouse on the east side and convert it to an open plan living/studio space maybe???

If you are a student. Check out your school's facility. I was a Texas States' student and I know they do have awesome studio with nice strobes for free.
