outdoor north Austin shoot bridal in February - 02-15-2010, 08:45 AM

I have a bridal shoot next week, and the bride is a bit disappointed she won't be getting the outdoor lush and verdant spring "magical' photos she has always envisioned. She lives in Georgetown, I'm in Dripping Springs, so anywhere in between is fair game!

Where can we shoot this time of year to get as close as possible to her vision, any hidden pockets or gardens? OR anywhere that is completely different from it? I don't want to try to accomplish what she wants only halfway. I'd rather do something unique that says, "I got married in February," than, "I am trying to make this February wedding look like June, but it didn't work!"

Thanks for any location suggestions.

Your client must a bit out of touch to think greenery would abound given the harsh winter.

Let's all hope for your sake that the rest of her wants and wishes for her wedding are more realistic.

Dang, this is a tall order. There are some Botanical Gardens near Zilker park. I'd start there, and ask them the same questions.

LOL! I don't think when she was dreaming about her wedding at 21 she thought, "I'll get married in February!" She's not expecting, more disappointed. I was hoping to find some sort of public garden in the north Austin area to surprise her.

Otherwise, what are some classy public hardscape areas to shoot in, like the Capitol?

The Capital is always an option and its FREE! Just have to deal with people in the background or hanging out to watch you shoot. If you go early on a Sunday its usually pretty deserted up until about noon.

Dunvegan might be a good option. not sure how green it is right now though. He used to be very reasonable about how much he charged to shoot bridals there but not sure anymore.

I just checked their website. The charge $125.00 for a bridal session and that includes a changing room.

Take a look at the Vineyards at Florence. They have some great areas to shoot. They probably will have a charge as well. The Vineyard at Florence - Encompasses 30 acres of grapes, providing area residents spectacular vistas from home sites and a tasting villa This is North West of Georgetown.

Some of the best bridal shots I have seen are from dead of winter with some great amber colors. Just watch dead trees in the background.

Also may want to check out Downtown Georgetown on he square or even Downtown Salado. Could be some nice small town old building to use as a backdrop.

Now if she is willing to go a little further head out to Longhorn Caverns near Inks Lake. Above the cave there is some beautiful hardscape buldings, arches and staircases.

I have no idea what Lady Bird Wildflower center is like this time of year. On the Visit page they have a link to a pro-photographer's form. Looks like $100 for a one day wedding shoot. Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center - The University of Texas at Austin Just another idea to check out. Hope you find something.

We ended up at a nursery, the Forever Gardens, in Georgetown, and they had 2 or 3 vignettes that still had some color this time of year
Pal Photo Art's Photos - Weddings | Facebook

Then we went to downtown Georgetown for the rest of the shoot, as her reception will be at the Williamson County Courthouse. She opted out of a paid location, but the Vineyards of Florence look great for another shoot. I was out that way recently, why I cannot remember, and made a note to stop in and leave my brochures as I'm in a wedding negotiation with a bride from Florence.

Thanks for the help and suggestions!
