Princer ~ The park rangers indicated the color would be much better within a week. However, I suspect it will be even better in two weeks. Watch the Fall Foliage Report for the park to get a better idea. Usually the report comes out on Wednesdays. However, last week it was released on Thursday.

One more concern, the day we arrived last week, there was a fairly strong wind. Leaves that were turning had been blown off trees. Repeatedly we heard from hikers that the area had too little water to facilitate good color change. I suspect that may not be entirely true. However, again, park rangers may provide more accurate information.

From my point of view, the park and surrounding country side holds such amazing diversity and beauty that our trip was well worth the effort, even without great color change. (BTW - Garner State Park has very nice cypress tree color changes right now!)

We went yesterday and it was beautiful! Lots of color, not too crowded (we stayed the night in Kerrville and got up early to get to the park at 8).

I'm so glad we didn't change our plans! My girls had a blast--they took almost as many pictures as I did! My husband and I are feeling the pain after the 4.6 mile hike!

If you can get out there in the next few days do it!
