I'm at a loss to where I can take portraits of people. Used the zilker park botanical gardens for senior portraits but now they demand a 50 dollar permit to take pictures. I like the feeling of the domain, but in order to use an umbrela and external lighting in a portrait, they need insurance. And I'm not willing to pay 3000 dollars a year. Know any good places? Anywhere will do. Somewhere like the domain without paying the hefty fee is a plus. Thanks y'all!

Not sure what appeals to you at the Domain, but I suggest looking through the Austin Photo Locales section, there's pretty much something for any kind of shoot in there.

Nate, it really has a lot to do with what sort of places you like to shoot. Outdoorsy? Laguna Gloria or Mayfield park are both greenish. For the most part, you will always find green grass on the Capitol grounds (not sure about dead of winter though).

It you're looking for outdoor-ish similar to the domain maybe try the Galleria in Bee Caves.

I dunno who told you insurance cost 3,000 dollars a year. You might find it's good to have, and a lot more affordable than you may think.

You need to check the regulations at any mall you might be using. Since they are private property, they all have varied regulations on photography. I would think the outdoor malls like Domain and Galleria might be more open to it than the indoor malls, where your tripod and lights might be more in the way.
