Austin boat rental - 05-01-2007, 10:34 AM

Has anyone rented a boat/pontoon in Austin/Lake Travis area? Just looking for recommendations since I'm not familiar with area. Famiy and friends are considering taking a trip around or near Austin/Lake Travis next weekend and will be coming from the Houston area.

Saw a rental place called Daybreak Boat Rental but was hoping for additional suggestions.

And now that there is water again in Lake Travis, a boat party will be fun again.
I have rented a big party boat for a birthday party for about 75 people from Lakeway Marina. I have also rented a smaller boat on Lake Travis from Just for Fun Watercraft. And I've been at a few private parties on the paddle wheel boat that goes up and down Town Lake. It leaves from beside the Hilton on the south shore.

Just for Fun is a great place - good people.. Please tell me you know how to run a boat! I would get a pontoon (sp?) boat for your party. Lots of room for a few people.

Thanks Dawn. Ha ha... I've piloted a couple of ski boats and pontoons before, don't worry. :)
I ended up reserving a pontoon from Daybreak Boat Rental (http://www.daybreakboatrentals.com/home.html). Seemed to be in the same area as Just for Fun. We're just looking to relax, maybe do some swimming and a nice casual place to have dinner around there. No wild party-ing or anything.

Boating Safety is my middle name (or first name if you count this forum).

There are many free or low cost classes available that can give you information that might save you or someone in your families life.

Why take the risk by thinking there is no risk. Has your boat had a safety inspection ? Do you know what to do if there is a problem ? Do you know what to do if you encounter someone else who has a problem ?

Just a couple of things you would learn in a boating safety class.

I live around Austin (Pflugerville) and have been looking at boats. Think I've finally settled on the one I want, but now have to figure out how to finance, where to store, all that good stuff. Funny thing is that I've never run a boat except for a 16' Jon boat with an outboard. LOL...

TXKent: I'm in Pville too. If you need any help with the boat thing let me know and I'll hook you and my husband up. He's my boat expert. We've had a lemon and now we've got a great boat. We are at the lake every Sunday of the summer & every chance in between.

PS. Sometime's Island on Lake Travis is below water. I've been waiting to hear that all winter. YA
