Torre di Pietra is absolutely adorable:

But there are tons of great vineyards in the hill country:

I also recommend Becker (great lavender fields too) and Mandola's.

Seconding Mandola's. Their vineyard is near Driftwood, and they also have a very splendid restaurant out there with a lovely building and grounds. You can do wine tasting there without having to eat. Trattoria Lisina. The vines are still young though so you may not see many grapes yet.

Been to them all, numerous times. If your looking for shots of the grounds and landscaping, Mandola's and Becker are good. The wine at Mandola's is absolutely atrocious though. If you actually want to taste the wine, go around the corner to Driftwood Vineyards. Not much on facilities, but the wine is good, and the view out over the actual vines is fabulous. They are on a high ridge looking west, so late afternoon is good for the view. Becker's wine is good too.
Up northwest, Spicewood Vineyards and Lost Creek are nice. Lost Creek has a pond with swans, but the tasting room is nothing to speak of. Spicewood is down a tiny little road with the vines right next to the winery. Even further north, Fall Creek Vineyards is right on Lake Buchanan, the grounds are really nice there too. But they close at 4.
And IMHO, it ain't a real vineyard unless one or more dogs greet you on the way in.

I looooove Lost Creek, unfortunately they had to shut down due to flooding last year. But they did have quite the pond and that swan just knew he was beautiful and made for pictures! I keep hoping they'll open back up, but their site still says closed.

I totally forgot about Fall Creek. They have gorgeous trees lining the drive that have overgrown across the top. It's just beautiful. Really nice in the fall when the leaves have changed color (and they seem to actually get color up there!).

(if you head out Becker/Torre di Petra way, head down west another 5 miles until you find the Wildflower Farms. They have a butterfly house in which you can easily spend several hours running around like mad chasing butterflies).

And share the shots!

Triana, thanks for the heads up. I was going to head out to Lost Creek one of these weekends, I'll definitely have to check and see if they're open first. I've been there a couple times when I didn't know if I could make it across the water over their driveway, since that bridge is pretty low. Maybe they are rebuilding it higher.
