Photos from last night's storm - 04-26-2008, 10:08 AM

Dragged myself out to go storm chasing. No, these are not from the cliff by the bridge. I'm not that crazy! They're from one of parking garages in that area. I got to use my remote control finally, which is really great in Bulb mode. Any thoughts on white balance? I love the cool, blue look, but was afraid of overdoing it. On the way home, there was much more spectacular cloud to cloud lightning. Need to find a better garage that isn't as surrounded by trees.

I love lightning shots, and you got some really good ones.

(Don't be afraid to post larger images. I've found a maximum of 800px wide and 600px high to work well.)

I like that strip of highway lights along with the lightning in #4. And what John said - 800 wide is a good size for this forum.

Thanks :) I bowed to peer pressure and linked to the larger images. That's what I was originally going to do, but chickened out.

Great shots! You had a nice location for it.

I took some from my home's balcony. We're down south near Buda and these are looking northwest towards the storm as it's coming south.

I love lightning shots. Are you using a lightning trigger or long exposures?

Jo,
I really like the ones where you got the sheets of rain.

mhuebner,
I've not heard of a lightning trigger. Sounds like something that would make life easier though. By the end of the night I was just using Bulb mode with the remote, so it was pretty easy, just a little tedious. I tried long exposure with continuous shooting, but that doesn't work well since you can't stop it right after a strike. Not that I know of anyway.

Check out www.lightningtrigger.com. I'm not a spokesman for them and I don't have one. I have been tempted to get one though and was interested in hearing in any first hand experience people had with them.

Thanks Jason!

I used a remote release too, but I just guessed at the settings as I've not really shot lightning before. After a couple of test shots I used 800ISO and 4 second exposures. I just waited until it looked ripe and bashed away on the trigger... deleted about half of what I took as black/blank shots and got some keepers, so I was happy.

Jason and Jo, great lightning shots. Makes me wish I had gone out and found a location to shoot from, instead of just thinking about doing it.
