Well, we're not due until end of November, but I wanted to start a conversation with a photographer who's interested in shooting a labor & delivery story for us.

That of course could potentially mean an insane # of hours of coverage (gosh I hope not ) and being "on-call" for when the big moment happens.

For more details PM me and I'd LOVE to see a link to a gallery if you've covered this before.

Thanks!

Hey, good luck and congrats! I know I've seen some photogs on here who have done this before (maybe even a thread specifically on it).

I prefer babies after they've lived on the outside for awhile. :-)

As a NICU RN in some busy hospitals for 14 years, I've attended thousands of deliveries, tho I've never specifically went in to photograph the proceedings. I'm probably a little far for any last-minute "hurry and get to the hospital" scenes.

Good luck and God Bless your new family addition

Good luck to you Erica. My wife just delivered our first son on 4/23 and you are in for a beautiful experience. If you do not end up getting a photog and are not planning on taking epidural, I would strongly suggest that you have your husband setup the equipment to be read y to go as soon as you get to hospital. Things get hectic in a hurry, so being prepared at the first opportunity is good. Take 2 cameras, charge the batteries up front and have 1 with a decent zoom + flash (17-40 on 20D for me), and another with a fast prime attached (85 1.8)

I think having a photog do this would be a brilliant idea if you can find one. On the other hand, the first few moments are so tender and wonderful, you may not want to share them with another person in the room besides the bare necessities. One thing I would strongly suggest is consider taking a video camera. The video is actually more precious to both me and my wife than the photos I took after the birth.
