I'm going to go... there have to be some good photo ops with this (especially for the "Titanic Award"):

Round Rock the Boat Regatta

Pits open at 9 am. Races begin at noon.

May 17 at Old Settlers Park.

Make a life-sized boat out of cardboard and tape! That's right. Get your friends together and jump aboard on your masterpiece! See the fun from the Tempe Town Lake Cardboard Boat Race and get your boat together for Round Rock's ROCK THE BOAT!

Not sure how to make a cardboard boat float? Check out this how to make a cardboard boat video from the River Legacy Foundation building school.

Spectators are invited to sail on by to Old Settlers Park to cheer on your favorite team, vote in the People’s Choice Award and watch the skies for colorful kite demonstrations by the Cloud Chasers. Concessions and emergency boat supplies will be available at the event.

Youth and adult teams will compete separately. Youth ages 8-14 are free. Adult teams with participants ages 15 and up are $20 for Class I and II boats and $25 for Class III boats.

Schedule: May 17, 2008
Old Settlers Park - Lakeview Pavilion/ Lake
Pits open at 9 a.m.
11 a.m. kite demonstration by the Cloud Chasers
Races begin at noon.
Finish the day at the park with music from the Williamson County Symphony Orchestra.
All entries and fees are due by May 10.

Yeah - and it's a big plus to live only one block from the park.

These Cloud Chaser kite folks make for some great photo ops, too. Below are a couple shots from their demo at Old Settlers Park back in March. The lower/longer kite is a 120' long "giant squid." Second photo shows two of the three people it takes to bring that thing down and collapse it; the smaller kite is a "pilot" that helps create lift to get the big boy airborne.
