Bridal Locale?? - 08-11-2008, 09:51 PM

Greetings folks. I find myself in a bit of a jam with a request to shoot a last minute bridal in Austin on August 24th. I live in San Antonio and haven't photographed any bridals in Austin city limits. I'm booked this upcoming weekend so a trip up I35 to scout locations is out too. I was wondering if any of you fine folks could suggest a suitable location.

My bride to be is requesting an indoor location with anything from classic to modern architecture but nothing to wild or bizarre. She has a big dress with a long, heavy train so she doesn't want to do too much traveling around. The session will take place Sunday afternoon or early evening. I suggested the capitol building but she vetoed that idea.

I've looked through the photo shoot locations listed they're all outside except for the state capitol.

Any fantastically brilliant locations you have shot at before that might fit the bill?? I thank you for you assistance in advance.

I love Mayfield Park. I shot bridals there a few years ago and it offers lots of variety. As with any park, you're going to have your best light closer to sunset.

ETA: Re-read your post... there are some indoor locations but as I have only shot outdoors, I am not sure about those. Sorry! I shouldn't post when I'm this tired. There are some beautiful hotels, but often you will have to pay a fee to shoot inside them.

When all else fails...The capital is free and indoors!!

Where is the bride getting married or where is her reception? Those might be good locations and probably free! Otherwise I'd go for pretty hotels. Some are more expensive than others. I like to shoot in the Driskall. Last time I shot there it was $300. They give you a getting ready room as well as electricity!! Did I mention air conditioning!!

Don't worry Shelby, sleep is over rated!! I'm calling my bride again tonight and I'll suggest the hotel idea and see if her desire for AC will motivate her to pull out some cash. If not I'll gently suggest several of the locations on the Austin photoshoot list.

If she does decide to shoot outside is there a "sweet spot" in Mayfield Park that you like? Thanks again.

She said she is getting married in someplace in Taylor. I'll ask if the sight of the ceremony is an option.

I popped over to the Driskall's website and liked what I saw in their photo gallery. Is there any place in particular you like to shoot when you are there? Thanks for your time and help.

Thanks for the sldieshow link. It was stunning work and the hotel looked nice too.
I called and suggested the Driskall to my bride and sent her the link to your slideshow. I should hear back from her in a couple of days.

Thanks for your ideas and help. I appreciate it a bunch. BTW if you ever wander south to SA and have some free time let me know and maybe we can break some bread (my treat) and swap some ideas. Chat with you soon.

Thanks for the suggestions Rene, they both look great. My bride has decided on the Driskall Hotel.

I haven't have a chance to photograph there before so I'm going to show up a bit early and do some scouting. I'll let you know how it comes out!
