Photo Op - except for NO CAMERA rule - 10-06-2008, 09:06 AM

As the title says... I was going to add this weekend's Amadillo SuperMoto to the Austin photo op calendar. And then, I read the fine print...

Allowed items: Personal camera equipment (i.e. small digital cameras or point-and-click 35mm cameras). Cameras with any type of detachable lenses are prohibited.

Prohibited items: Professional still camera equipment (no detachable lenses, no tripods, big zooms, or commercial use rigs)

I was going to go. Not anymore.
Sigh...

make sure you send them a note and let them know of your decision, otherwise they'll continue with this bonehead policy.

I sent an email and Skip Jones replied saying I was ok bringing my D50 with my 17-50mm and 18-200mm lenses. I think I'll end up going this weekend

make sure you print that and take it with you as I doubt he'll be at the gate.

Skip is supposed to be there as he is the one that I went thru to get my credentials for the race. At least he said he was going to be there so you could always use his name at the gate if they give you any trouble.

Just FYI, I just got word that the SuperMoto race this weekend has been cancelled. Apaprently the wonderful people in East Austin petitioned against it and won. Once again, proof that we will never have any real sports teams or events in this city.

Bugger. It looked like a cool event. Speed channel TV and all....

I suppose that's why Skip hasn't replied to my request.

Harris Hill or Driveway Austin might be alternative options for future events -- except for the lack of ability to handle spectators. After all, they were not designed as public venues.
Sigh...

Bummer, and the autocross event planned for the 26th at the Driveway has been canceled as well. I was looking forward to both of those events.....

According to the race director they have one rule. Don't get run over. Richard is prepping for this race now. The core of engineers let him inspect the track last weekend. I will see if I can get a route map from him early. Maybe we can organize a GTG for the event.

If I get the map, I will make it available to you do download. -G

I guess the SXSW folks might disagree with that, but look at the bright side you get the state legistlature down there every two years. of course up here in Dallas the circus comes to town every August
