Georgetown at Night - 01-03-2009, 02:25 PM

I'm still new to DSLR and I'm fascinated with night photos right now. These are some shots I took in Georgetown last night.

The third photo is at the airport. If you want to shoot out there, I recommend taking a pilot with you. There's not much in the way of security, but you shouldn't be on the taxiways.

Fun shots. I suspect if you bump the contrast and sharpen them a little, you may even like them more. Give it a try. Thanks for posting.

Thanks. I'm always looking for ways to improve. I think what I see on my computer looks different when I upload it. I'm also using limited software called PhotoFiltre. Here's how they look bumping the contrast and sharpness. Does it look better? I bumped each setting once in the first photo and once more in the second.

Looks much better to me. The second one may be a little over sharpened, but they both are much improved.

Night shooting is lots of fun, but you might try shooting at dusk instead of later at night. Personally, I love the dark inky blue sky you get instead of the blackness of night.

Jack, Good start! Your shots do have a haze type effect. You may want to look at varying your exposures and Fstops to get a more crisp contrast between the lighted objects and the darker areas.

I have some shots form downtown at night as well you can see them on my blog at various post. Let me know if you have questions on the technique I used.

Thanks for the compliment. I admit I'm an absolute amature, but I had good results with a point-and-shoot, so I moved up to my XSI.

My shots pale in comparison to yours. Great work. I absolutely appreciate any advise I can get on technique. The XSI has a large screen on the back, so I usually have an idea where I want the Fstop when I start and adjust it as I'm taking photos. Even with the large screen, I sometimes get home and the shot I thought would be the best is not!

On the first shot of the courthouse, I had F/8, 10 sec exposure, ISO-100. Then I added contrast per the suggestions on this forum and it looks a lot better.
