Austin area camping - 01-08-2009, 08:23 PM

So I am headed to Austin for a little camping trip this weekend.

Anyone have a good recommendation for a camping spot? Looking for something quiet that can provide some good photo opportunities. Mainly landscapes, etc.

We probably want to stay withing 1.5 hours of Austin. Any ideas?

Berry Springs park and preserve: http://www.wilco.org/CountyDepartmen...S/Default.aspx

Not in Austin, but not very far either and it's a pleasant little park.

Thanks for the ideas - when I look on the TPWD website, there are many sites around austin, and it's hard to know which ones are good for photos.

There is always the Barton Creek greenbelt and Zilker park if you just want a short photo trip and to stay in Austin. No camping there, but if you are in town for other reasons...

There are so many places and they are all good. The Inks Lake area is goign to give you the most photo ops in my opinnion. We took a day trip out there last weekend and I filled up 3 memory cards between, Ink Lakes state Park, Longhorn Cavern State Park, And the Parks around Lake Buchannan. Not to mention some cool small towns in the area

I just thought of another option... How about some caves with Inner Space?

Hi everyone, thanks for the replies! We ended up going to the Inks lake. It was a good combination of distance from 35 and photo opportunities. It was great, although a little chilly! I wish I had a longer zoom, there were plenty of birds in the area.

Thanks for the help, next time we'll check out some of the other recommendations.
