Places around Lake Travis to shoot? - 03-12-2009, 04:03 PM

I will be heading up to Lake Travis for spring break and I was wondering if there were any good places in particular to shoot landscape/wildlife. By wildlife, I mean stuff like deer or birds you don't see anywhere.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with Lake Travis at all....but Hippy Hollow is a ....umm...clothing optional beach.....I've heard they tend to get wild when people show up with cameras.

What? Are you sure about that? That doesn't sound legal at all, especially considering that it is a public park sanctioned by the city. I thought public nudity was prohibited

Ten bucks a head to get in still....

In Texas, (and this is according to some Austin Police officers I know) anywhere a man can go without a shirt, so can a woman, as long as she does not cause a public disturbance.

Lago Vista is on the north shore of the lake. If you just go down the road that you turn off to get into Lago Vista, you will be in Arkansas Bend Park. And you'll also be near "The Island on Lake Travis". There is a listing for it here in the Austin Photo Locales, but it's more civilized than wild. But from Lago Vista if you head west on 1431 you'll get into Marble Falls, keep going and you get to Inks Lake State Park, and I always see deer there.

Yup, Hippie Hollow has been around since at least the 60's and it is clothing optional AND OWNED by the County total Austin Coolness. They were considering closing it down years ago when they even alllowed kids in but then changed the rules for 18+ and kept it going. Some people are regulars, they can be spotted by the lack of tan lines while others are just there as a one time thing, best to keep the camera in the car.

Funny watching the boaters trying to get close to shore to shoot pics, there is a barrier set up to keep boats back so swimmers have a safe place to swim. Water gets very deep just a few yards from shore since that part of the lake is pretty steep sided.

There also is full EMT service since they get a lot of twisted ankles and worse on the rough rocks along the shore line.
